Voluntary Electricity Conservation Request
Thursday, Feb. 20
Dear LREC Member,
Lake Region Electric Cooperative (LREC) and our power supplier, Associated Electric Cooperative (AECI), are requesting voluntary electricity conservation on Thursday, Feb. 20, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.
AECI has issued a Conservative Operations Alert due to extreme cold temperatures, which are expected to drive energy demand to a potential all-time system peak of 6,000 megawatts. While AECI has sufficient generating resources to meet demand, voluntary conservation can help stabilize the system and reduce strain on the grid.
Please consider taking these energy-saving steps:
✅ Lower your thermostat a few degrees.
✅ Close curtains and blinds to retain heat.
✅ Delay using large appliances (washers, dryers, ovens) until after 10 a.m.
✅ Turn off and unplug non-essential lights and electronics.
This alert is an early precautionary measure to ensure reliable service. Please stay tuned for any further updates. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our power system strong!
