Youth Programs
LREC proudly supports the National Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour and the OAEC Youth Leadership Camp. LREC sponsors three students to attend the Youth Tour and three students to attend the Energy Camp each summer.
NRECA Rural Electric Youth Tour
June 13 - 29, 2025
Calling all high school juniors! The NRECA Rural Electric Youth Tour is an opportunity for students in LREC's service territory to spend an educational and fun week in Washington, D.C., learning about government and the electric cooperative model, touring historical monuments and museums, and experiencing everything D.C. has to offer! Bottom line, you will make friendships that will last a lifetime and be part of a group with more than 50,000 alumni in every walk of life, including U.S. Senators and CEOs.
Leadership Summit
LREC selects two high school students to attend the Leadership Summit in Oklahoma City each year. These students are the alternates from the Youth Tour Contest who receive this trip. This annual event is designed to excite and motivate students to become leaders in their communities. More than 500 high school students have been recognized for their leadership abilities by having the opportunity to attend one of the previous Leadership Summits in Oklahoma.
OAEC Energy Camp
May 27 - 30, 2025
Each year, LREC sends up to three 8th-grade students from our local schools to attend Energy Camp. Energy Camp is a 4-day summer camp designed to help 8th-grade student leaders grow in leadership development through team building and cooperation activities. Campers also learn about one of rural America’s most important accomplishments—rural electrification. Campers experience electricity in a new light!
LREC Scholarship
LREC offers two $2,500 scholarships to high school seniors living or attending school within LREC’s service territory. These scholarships help to instill high morals, leadership, self-esteem, and confidence so these individuals will be the type of citizens to lead our communities and country in the future.
