LREC proudly supports several youth programs throughout the year. LREC believes strongly in the power of community. The cornerstones of our communities are our schools and the children who attend them. Partnering with local educators to strengthen the community's power is vital to our mission at LREC.
LREC Scholarship
For High School Seniors
2026 DATES: TBD
LREC offers two $2,500 scholarships to high school seniors living or attending school within LREC’s service territory. These scholarships help to instill high morals, leadership, self-esteem, and confidence so these individuals will be the type of citizens to lead our communities and country in the future.
NRECA Rural Electric Youth Tour
For High School Juniors
2026 DATES: June 13-19
Calling all high school juniors! The NRECA Rural Electric Youth Tour is an opportunity for students in LREC's service territory to spend an educational and fun week in Washington, D.C., learning about government and the electric cooperative model, touring historical monuments and museums, and experiencing everything D.C. has to offer! Bottom line, you will make friendships that will last a lifetime and be part of a group with more than 50,000 alumni in every walk of life, including U.S. Senators and CEOs.
Co-op Civics Summit
For High School Sophomores
2026 DATES: TBD - Sept or Oct
Empowering the next generation of civic-minded leaders. An interactive experience where students can explore government, advocacy, and the role of electric cooperatives in shaping public policy. Will be held at the OAEC conference center in OKC, transportation provided by LREC.
Co-op Leadership Challenge
For High School Freshmen
2026 DATES: July 16
A simulation-based leadership experience, this program challenges students to step into the role of leaders during a cooperative power outage scenario. Hosted at the OAEC Conference Center in Oklahoma City, the exercise builds critical skills including situational leadership, crisis communication, cooperative values, decision-making, team coordination, and community-first thinking, among others.
OAEC Energy Camp
For 8th graders
2026 DATES: May 26-28
Each year, LREC sends up to three 8th-grade students from our local schools to attend Energy Camp. Energy Camp is a 4-day summer camp designed to help 8th-grade student leaders grow in leadership development through team building and cooperation activities. Campers also learn about one of rural America’s most important accomplishments—rural electrification. Campers experience electricity in a new light!
Co-Opreneur Day
For 7th & 8th graders
2026 DATES: TBD
A fast-paced, hands-on experience introducing students to co-op values through innovations and teamwork. Students tackle real-world problems, pitch creative solutions and learn how co-ops empower communities. This 7th and 8th-grade student competition is designed to develop and explore business development, economic, leadership, and entrepreneurship skills held at the OAEC conference center in OKC.
