Generator Safety Tips

Generator Safety Tips

For whole-house generators:
• Always hire a licensed electrician to install your generator and a transfer switch. This prevents dangerous backfeed that can put utility workers and your home at risk.
• Know your system’s limits and create a priority plan for which appliances and systems you will power during an outage.
• Remember, DIY installation puts both your family and our linemen in serious danger.

For portable generators:
• Always operate generators outdoors, at least 20 feet away from doors, windows, and vents.
• Replace frayed or damaged cords immediately.
• Make sure all connections are clean, tight, and protected from moisture to prevent electrical hazards.
