Storm Cleanup Underway Across Lake Region’s Service Territory
With power restoration complete following last week’s severe storm, Lake Region Electric Cooperative crews have shifted their focus to the next phase of storm recovery: cleanup. Members throughout our service territory may still see damaged poles, broken transformers, and other electrical equipment left behind in areas where restoration work was completed. If you have noticed this equipment near your property or along the roadside, please know our crews will be back to collect it.
Restoration Came First
During a major outage event, our crews have one primary goal: restore power safely and as quickly as possible. Last week’s storm caused widespread damage throughout our system, leaving nearly 6,000 members without power at the peak of the event. Crews encountered extensive tree damage, downed lines, broken poles, damaged transformers, and difficult terrain as they worked from one outage to the next. To make the most efficient use of every available crew and every hour in the field, damaged equipment was often removed, replaced, and left safely at the worksite so crews could immediately move on to the next restoration. Simply put, getting the lights back on took priority over hauling damaged equipment away.
Cleanup Is Now Underway
Now that restoration is complete, our crews have already begun retracing their routes through the areas where storm repairs were made. They will continue collecting damaged poles, transformers, and other equipment throughout our service territory. Because of the extensive damage across our system, completing this cleanup will take time. We appreciate our members’ patience as crews work their way back through each affected area. Storm recovery does not end when the lights come back on. There is still plenty of work to be done behind the scenes and throughout our system, and our employees will continue working until the job is complete.
Help Us Keep an Eye on Our Lines
Last week’s storm also demonstrated just how much damage trees and vegetation can cause to electrical infrastructure. Vegetation management is an important part of Lake Region’s year-round efforts to improve safety, reliability, and access to our lines. If you notice a tree or branches growing close to or touching Lake Region power lines or electrical equipment, we encourage you to submit a Right-of-Way Request through our website. Please remember that Lake Region does not trim trees past the electric meter. Thank you, Lake Region, for your patience and support throughout restoration and now as we continue the cleanup process.
