Youth Tour Students Prepare for Washington, D.C.

Two of our Youth Tour winners, Levi Kirk of Hulbert High School and Adriana Ledezma of Porter High School, along with Youth Tour alum Adam Luna, recently joined approximately 70 outstanding high school students and Youth Tour alumni from across Oklahoma for the first-ever In-State Youth Tour.

This event brought together students representing their communities, their cooperatives, and their state for a day focused on leadership, connection, and preparation for the journey ahead.

The day began with remarks from Senator Dossett, a former Oklahoma Youth Tour delegate from the Class of 1998, who helped set the tone and inspire students as they begin this experience. Throughout the morning, students explored the cooperative difference, learned more about Youth Tour, and received a preview of what they can expect during their trip to Washington, D.C.

During lunch, students heard from a variety of speakers who shared how Youth Tour can open doors long after the trip ends. Former delegates and ambassadors offered insight on staying engaged and making the most of the experience. The current Youth Leadership Council representative, Kensli, spoke about her year of leadership, national connections, and additional travel opportunities. Students also heard from a State Capitol intern and Youth Tour delegate who emphasized the power of networking, along with a representative from NRECA who highlighted internships, scholarships, and career pathways available through the program.

The day concluded with a visit to the State Capitol, where students explored the building, connected with peers, and experienced firsthand where leadership and advocacy take place.

June is approaching quickly, and these students are preparing to visit our nation’s capital in Washington, D.C. This milestone event served as the perfect introduction to the opportunities and experiences that lie ahead. We look forward to seeing how each of these students grows through this once-in-a-lifetime journey
